I have always loved cats

Well today,  though I've just cut & shaped a new stbd rudder, I am not talking about that kind of cat. Im talking about real cats.

When I was just 9 years of age I was sent to stay with my grandparents. I'd never been away from mum & dad or my brothers & sisters before, so technically it was a wrench. But, I never felt upset about  the situation because I saw it as an adventure. My Pa commuted by train for long hours, so I only saw him on weekends or later at night. Most of the time I spent with my soft-spoken Nan & her animals. They loved on spme acreage and had a menagerie including, a few goats, 2 dozen chickens, a pack of dogs for breeding &, to my surprise, a cat.

Like Nan & I, the unnamed cat was shy. Although my family were regular visitors, no-one had ever seen a cat. Anyway soon after I arrived it was evident that Mum was unwell with her pregnancy & she had to be admitted to hospital with total bed-rest. As the weeks rolled by I developed a relationship with "the cat", or I suspect the other way around. It was apparent that I'd been under surveillance & assessed as having a gentle & caring attitude towards animals.

So furtively the cat let herself be seen. Days later I was permitted a pat & the rest was history. Later, after all the farm chores were done & lunch eaten, the cat & I would sit on the lounge together. Whole afternoons would pass with the cat sleeping curled up on my lap. I'd pat her a while before falling asleep myself.

I recall one day,  mum must have been on day release. While carry& I were on our usual afternoon position, I was dozey after the excitement of mum's visit & could hardly keep my eyes open.  I heard Nan telling Mum how relaxed I'd been & not to worry,  he has a little friend.

Over the years various dogs have played a lead roll at various stages of my life & relationships,  but the time spent with cats has always been intimate & loving.  They seem to know when they are needed and will help you feel peaceful & apprecoated in return for your affections to them.

Peace.
